Annual Fire Pump Inspection & Flow Test
Fire pumps are the heart of a building’s fire protection system. NFPA 25 requires annual inspections and flow tests to verify that pumps can deliver the correct water pressure and volume during an emergency. Regular testing ensures reliability, identifies potential issues before they become failures, and keeps your property compliant with fire code requirements.

Annual Fire pump inspection
An annual fire pump inspection is a thorough check of the pump and all associated equipment. Our technicians follow NFPA 25 guidelines to confirm the system is safe, operational, and ready to respond.
"Over 60% of fire pump failures are linked to lack of maintenance or missed inspections."
What We Inspect Each Year:
✓ Visual Inspection
Check the pump, piping, valves, and controller for corrosion, leaks, or physical damage.
✓ Mechanical Components
Verify bearings, shaft alignment, lubrication, and overall pump condition.
✓ Electrical Components
Inspect controllers, wiring, alarms, and start functions.
✓ Fuel & Cooling Systems
Confirm diesel fuel supply, tank condition, and cooling systems where applicable.
✓ Auxiliary Systems
Ensure jockey pumps, batteries, chargers, and heating systems are functional.
The Flow Test includes:
✓ Churn Test (No Flow)
Running the pump without flowing water to measure baseline pressure.
✓ 100% Capacity Test
Flowing water equal to the pump’s rated capacity to confirm performance.
✓ 150% Capacity Test (if possible)
Flowing water above rated capacity to ensure the pump can handle peak demand.
✓ Pressure Readings
Recording suction, discharge, static, and residual pressures.
✓ Performance Curve Verification
Comparing results to the pump’s hydraulic nameplate and performance curve.
✓ Controller & Alarm Checks
Confirming alarms, start/stop functions, and supervisory signals operate as intended.
Annual Fire Pump Flow Test
A flow test is required every year to verify that the fire pump can meet its rated capacity. During the test, the pump is run at different flow conditions, and performance is measured against NFPA standards and the manufacturer’s specifications.
