Count On Alltron Systems for Your Annual Fire Extinguisher Inspections
Annual Fire Extinguisher Inspections as Per NFPA 10
An annual fire extinguisher inspection as per NFPA 10 ("Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers") involves a thorough check of each fire extinguisher in a facility to ensure it is in working order and readily available for use in the event of a fire. This standard set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) specifies the requirements for the distribution, maintenance, inspection, and testing of portable fire extinguishers.
The annual inspection typically includes the following steps:
Location and Accessibility
We will ensure that each extinguisher is in its designated place, clearly visible, and accessible for immediate use.
Pressure Gauge
Our certified technicians will verify that the pressure gauge is in the operable range or position. For extinguishers without gauges, the weight will be checked to ensure it is full.
Instruction Label
Checking that the operating instructions on the nameplate are legible and facing outward.
Maintenance and History
Reviewing the extinguisher's maintenance and testing history to ensure compliance with required intervals for more in-depth inspections, maintenance, and testing.
Expiry Date
Checking the expiry date to ensure the extinguisher is still within its useful lifespan.
Upon Completion
Once the inspection is completed, any issues found should be addressed immediately, such as recharging or repairing the extinguisher. If an extinguisher is found to be inoperable, it must be replaced or repaired by a certified Alltron Systems professional.
Physical Condition
This involves examining the extinguisher for physical damage, corrosion, leakage, or clogged nozzles. The hose or nozzle, carrying handle, and locking pinwill also be checked for any damage or obstruction.
Seals and Tamper Indicator
Ensuring that the tamper seal is intact and the pull pin is secured with a tamper indicator.
Service Tag
Updating or replacing the inspection tag or record to indicate the month and year of the inspection and the initials of the person performing theinspection.
Type and Classification
Confirming that the extinguisher is the correct type and classification for the hazards in the area where it is located.
Instruction and Training
Verifying that the instructions for use are clearly understandable and that people in the facility are trained or informed about how to use the extinguishers.
